It's hard not to fall in love with this place just on sight. As we descended into Ljubljana, the peaks of the snow-covered Alps poked through the clouds like miniature white pyramids; below the clouds, the Alpine forests and farms ran on forever. The city of Ljubljana itself is a fairytale town. They have restricted the oldest section of the city to pedestrians only. So, there is a half-mile stretch along both sides of the river that winds through the city of cobblestone streets, red rooftops, quaint shops, restaurants, outdoor cafes, and open air markets with no traffic. All of this in the shadow of a castle perched high on a hill above. It really is a fairytale city.
Of course we have only been here a day, but we have yet to meet someone who isn't completely friendly. I suppose it helps when you look delirious and are hauling around three delirious kids, but everyone we have met has been incredibly gracious.
This all helped to offset the fact that our daughter puked all over herself the second we got through customs. We are certain this will be a truly wonderful experience.
